One of the most affordable and efficient ways to obtain an eCommerce website (an online store) is to purchase a hosted solution. A hosted solution is built, supported and hosted by a specialist supplier, not the web designer.
My role as a web designer is:
- helping you choose a hosted shopping cart,
- designing a customised graphic design for that cart, or
- designing a separate website, and integrating the cart
Hosted solutions can be either:
- just the shopping cart itself (effectively a big catalogue), or
- the shopping cart plus extra web pages
Since shopping carts are inherently complicated, sophisticated, and specialised, they are under constant development. A hosted shopping cart will give you the benefit of constant general improvements and updates from the supplier.
Costs vary between suppliers, and between the level of packages on offer (eg. Starter, Standard, Premium, Gold, etc). typically, all packages are charged with a startup fee, followed by monthly payments for hosting.
Hosted solutions have a huge range of features, so it is very important to find the one that suits your requirements.
